Trachten Werk Woche Babenhausen

Last week, from 18th to 23rd of April, 2017, the second Trachtenwerkwoche (handicraft week on traditional dresses) was held in Babenhausen, Germany. This seminary was organized by the Trachtenkulturberatung from the Schwaben district in Bavaria (Bavaria, in the south of Germany, has 7 districts).

The Trachtenwerkwoche is held in the form of a seminary, takes place once a year, usually during the week after Easter and this time was organised in 7 work groups:

1. Werktagsgewand (Workday cloth) with Janina Lindner

Robe and skirt in classical processing techniques according to the pattern already used in the 19th century.

2. Traditional shirts with Ute Palmer-Wagner

Slightly modernized and embroidered shirts for men or women, the patterns and manufacturing techniques used have proven their worth in many cultures for centuries.

3. Stitched jackets for the traditional costume with Fabian Kipp

Spencer, coat jacket, lap jacket or Caraco, different models are available

4. Traditional vests with Margit Hummel

Men's vests according to nineteenth-century patterns, single-row or double-rowed, with or without reverse flops, with gusset pockets, if time allows with tailor style buttonholes and embroidery inserts.

5. Traditional dresses – basic pattern with Claudia Tiedje

Sewing a coarse cotton example according to a basic pattern to form a tight-fitting top with sleeves, including fitting, pattern and model discussions and modifications – to make fit the bodice and the spencer.

6. Passements buttons with Sandra-Janine Müller

Weaving, edging, overstitching, gorl twisting: each day a new artful button making technique (necessary knowledge: Stern, Ottobeurer, Smooth Button)

7. Change, customize with Dr. Monika Standscke

Traditionally and creatively changing, narrowing, widening, extending and reconditioning Dirndls and traditional dresses using different handwork techniques

In my eyes, this is a great initiative to promote the culture and tradition.

I was part of the group Traditional dresses – basic pattern held by Claudia Tiedje. It was a great experience, a lot of things learned, this is an event 100% recommended for all enthusiasts of traditional dresses.

Here is a link from Augsburg television, I am the Venezuelan mentioned in the video…
